What do you do?
I'm here to help the Nurse Residency Program to succeed and produce the best nurses ever!
What inspired you to work with the Nurse Residency Program?
I have been a nurse for many years and have educated healthcare employees from dietary to physicians for about 4 ½ years of that time. I believe in being a lifelong learner and I LOVE to help people succeed at their chosen profession and for patients to have the best possible experience ever. There are so many reasons that inspired me to work with the Nurse Residency Program. I love to walk by a patient’s room and hear a new graduate nurse put into action something that I have taught them. I love to hear patients tell me that the new employee is professional and caring. I love it when a nurse resident asks me something that I don’t know, because I will find the answer for them, and I will learn, too!
What is your favorite part of your job?
Role playing simulation is probably the most fun, because the student doesn’t know what to expect and neither does the instructor. It is a good way to teach and to learn. When working in role-playing simulation, I often play the most difficult patient or family that I could and hear the laughter of the group as the role playing student responds. But then someone would always say, “You know, it really happens that way.” Nothing is better than to see the light bulb come on for a student about something that they have been struggling with, and the smile that comes upon their face.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I love art. All types of art, classical to modern- abstract to realism. I love to go to museums. I love to paint and draw. I love to look at art magazines. I love to talk about art. I am an art geek.
