Nurse Residency Program Regional Coordinator

What do you do?

Alongside Dawn Hudson-Gray, I serve as one of the Regional Coordinators in the Nashville area, which includes Bowling Green, Kentucky. I am the point of contact for the Nurse Residency Program at four facilities – TriStar Greenview, TriStar Hendersonville, TriStar Skyline and TriStar Summit. In my role, I communicate with both the Leadership Team as well as the Nurse Residents to make sure they have the necessary information regarding the TriStar Nurse Residency Program. I help to make the Nurse Resident’s career successful and hopefully long-term at their facility. Also, when needed I help the nursing professional development team teach the curriculum for the Pediatric Nurse Residents, which I really enjoy since I am a Pediatric Registered Nurse at heart!

What inspired you to work with the Nurse Residency Program?

I previously worked as a Pediatric Registered Nurse at the Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. When I first started my nursing career at CMC-Dallas, I was a new Nurse Resident in their nurse residency program, so I know firsthand what it is like to go through a successful and supportive program. Looking back on that experience, I am grateful to have worked for a company who wanted to invest in me and who wanted to make sure I felt prepared to be a new nurse on my own. When I moved to Nashville to be closer to family and I learned of TriStar’s Nurse Residency Program, I knew I had to be a part of the team!

When I started in my nurse residency program, I worked in a Level I Trauma Center and on the Inpatient Pediatric General Surgery, Urology, ENT, Plastic Surgery and Orthopedics floors. Most recently and right before moving to Nashville from Dallas, I was working on their Inpatient Pediatric Hematology and Oncology floor. So, I love taking care of kids!

What is your favorite part of your job?

I love being a supportive person for our new nurses! My favorite part of my job is when a new graduate nurse sends me a picture of their computer screen with the words – “NCLEX-pass” on it! For them to think to share that excitement with me in that moment is truly an honor.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I enjoy finding new hiking trails in the area with my German shorthaired pointer mix, Jovie. Her name is Jovie after Zooey Deschanel’s character name in the movie, "Elf." That’s why smiling’s my favorite!
